WELCOME TO ONE OF NEW YORK’S PREMIERE PLASTIC SURGERY PRACTICES

Dr. Sophie is on a short list of nationally recognized leaders in her field, adhering to the highest standards of patient care, and aiming for excellence in every aspect of your treatment.

“Dr. Sophie Bartsich is an angel who’s passionate, intelligent and patient. I’d describe her as a surgeon with an artist’s eye.”

PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

While there are some rules and guidelines to aesthetics, the optimal result is customized and unexpected. Natural beauty is not a cookie cutter operation. It requires attention to detail, intuition, and artistry. You should define your own beauty and write your own narrative, with your surgeon as your guide.

For me, my profession is a vocation, where surgery meets art, where my background in design meets my formative training in the sciences, and where my patients’ vision of themselves becomes a reality. A reality where they no longer need to wear a bra!

“She has a personal approach unlike any other plastic surgeon I have met.”

ABOUT THE DOCTOR

I was born and raised in New York City and educated in the French school system at the Lycée Français de New York. Growing up in a multi-cultural home, I learned early on to appreciate an international aesthetic. Groomed for the sciences from an early age, I completed the French Baccalauréat degree in biology at the Lycée, then shifted focus in college to broaden my horizons. I ultimately pursued an undergraduate degree in psychology at Cornell University, with a focus on behavior and interpersonal relationships, while exploring the arts.

Compelled by a growing interest in design, I attended the world renowned Parsons School of Design while working at the fashion house of Calvin Klein. This was followed by a period of study abroad in foreign language and art centered around classic and modern Italian history. I practiced jewelry making and familiarized myself with contemporary artists, while traveling and gaining new perspectives. Ultimately, my focus on design ranged from fashion to architecture, with a focus on balance and natural aesthetics.

Realizing that I did want to become a physician after all, I completed my premedical studies at Columbia University and a medical degree at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. I was accepted into the independent program in Plastic Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where I trained at a wide range of top ranked academic institutions in Manhattan.

doctors performing surgeryIn 2013, I became an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York Presbyterian Hospital Medical Center, where I train medical students and residents on a regular basis.

My research focus is cosmetic breast surgery. This began with work on implant-based complications that I performed as a resident in 2010. This research won two awards at the national Aesthetic Meeting in 2011, and ultimately became the basis my current academic endeavors. Today, I am engaged in the development and promotion of better breast implants, as well as the eradication of breast cancer through inoculation against the Human Mammary Tumor Virus.

Published in several peer-reviewed journals, I continue to pursue my research interests, and to speak among my colleagues at local and national conferences.
